ONLINE CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT WITH THE SMILES MODEL TO ENHANCE A NEW NORMAL LEARNING IN THE EDUCATION TRANSFORMATION THROUGH DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY

Abstract
This article aims to present online classroom management with the SMILES model to enhance a new normal learning in the era of education transformation through digital technology. The model was created as the result of study, analysis and synthesis of documents, articles, and research concerning learning in a new normal way of life, education transformation through digital technology, learning management and classroom management. Then, the result of study was concluded to form the SMILES model to be applied for online classroom management and promotion of learning in a new normal way of life. The SMILES model consists of the following components: (1) Strategy, which is strategic planning to design learning management and classroom management, and to determine learning objectives and goals; (2) Motivation, which is the creation of inspiration to motivate the learners and reinforce them when they achieve success based on learning objectives and goals; (3) Interactive, which is the emphasis on interaction, exchange, participation and cooperation among the learners; (4) Learning activities, which are learning activities that focus on active learning, together with flipped classroom and gamification; (5) Evaluation, which is the formative assessment to develop the learners’ learning process; and (6) Sprightly, which is the emphasis on learning atmosphere that is lively and enjoyable. All components have been integrated and applied for online learning management or distance learning management via various digital learning in order to motivate learning, attract interest in learning, and create good attitude toward learning to enable the learners to learn happily resulting in increasing learning efficiency.
