GUIDELINES FOR DEVELOPING UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS THROUGH WORK-BASED EDUCATION MANAGEMENT TO MEET THE NEEDS OF ENTERPRISES IN THE SERVICE INDUSTRY UNDER THE NEW NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES

Abstract
The purposes of this research were to compare the skills utilized by undergraduate students during internship before and after the New Normal circumstances; to study personnel qualifications required by enterprises; and to propose guidelines for developing undergraduate students through Work-based Education to meet the needs of enterprises in the service industry under the New Normal circumstances. The research sample and key informants consisted of 210 students from the Faculty of Liberal Arts and the Faculty of Communication Arts, and representatives of 12 enterprises in the service industry. The data collection tools were a questionnaire and a structured interview form. Quantitative data were statistically analyzed using the percentage, mean, standard deviation, and PNI modified index; while qualitative data were analyzed with content analysis. The research results were as follows: (1) the top three skills students used in performing tasks before and after the New Normal circumstances were the skills for working with the others, the self-management and responsibility skills, and the Thai language skills; (2) personnel qualifications required to meet the needs of enterprises in the service industry under the New Normal circumstances were (2.1) having the growth mindset to be constantly ready for learning and self-development; (2.2) the ability to work with the others; (2.3) having multi skills in oneself; (2.4) the use of correct language in both Thai and foreign languages; and (2.5) skills in using office computer programs and specific computer programs; (3) the guidelines for developing undergraduate students were as follows: (3.1) to provide opportunities for students to work cooperatively as well as to adjust themselves better in performing various jobs; (3.2) to enhance other skills, apart from skills in principal classroom courses in order to enable the students to have a wider range of knowledge and abilities that can be integrated in their work performance; (3.3) to promote language skills in both Thai, English and a third language; and (4) to develop basic skills needed in specific work positions.
