THE DEVELOPMENT OF TRAINING COURSE TO ENHANCE HIGHER-ORDER THINKING SKILLS FOR TEACHER STUDENTS IN CHANDRAKASEM RAJABHAT UNIVERSITY

Abstract
The objectives of this research were (1) to develop the Training Course to Enhance Higher-Order Thinking Skills for Teacher Students and (2) to evaluate the effectiveness of the Training Course. The research and development method was applied in this research. The samples were 2 groups of first year undergraduate students of the Faculty of Education who were registered in the Educational Philosophy and Sufficiency Economy Course in the first semester of the academic year 2022, obtained by cluster sampling. Then they were randomly assigned into an experimental group and a control group each of which consisting of 25 students. The research instruments comprised (1) the Training Course to Enhance Higher-Order Thinking Skills for Teacher Students, (2) a scale to assess higher-order thinking skills, and (3) a questionnaire on student’s satisfaction with the training by the Training Course. The data were statistically analyzed using the mean, standard deviation, and t-test.
The research findings were as follows: (1) the Training Course developed by the researcher was composed of 9 components as follows: basic concepts, principles, objectives, learning contents, duration, the structure of the Training Course, activities organization process, media and learning resources, and measurement and evaluation; all of them were appropriate at the highest level; and (2) results of effectiveness assessment of the Training Course were as follows: (2.1) the post-training higher-order thinking skills of the experimental group students were significantly higher than the counterpart thinking skills of the control group students at the .05 level of statistical significance; (2.2) the post-training higher-order thinking skills of the experimental group students were significantly higher than the determined criterion of 60% at the .05 level of statistical significance; and (2.3) the teacher students’ satisfaction with the training by the Training Course was at the high level.
