KOSAK CHAIRASMISAK AND THE PUBLICATION OF GO IN THAI SOCIETY

Abstract

The research is a qualitative study with the objectives to study (1) the connection between Mr. Kosak and Go game; (2) Mr. Kosak’s roles and the promotion and dissemination of Go game; (3) Mr. Kosak’s objectives in the promotion and dissemination of Go game; and (4) the impacts of Go game promotion and dissemination on the Thai society. The research data were collected from documents, texts, books, and previous research studies as well as the interviews of Mr. Kosak as the primary source person, persons involved with the promotion and dissemination, and Go game players who were influenced by the promotion and dissemination of Go game. The collected data were compiled for analysis and creation of the knowledge conclusions based on the research objectives.


The findings of this study reveal the following: (1) Mr. Korsak has personally embraced Go game as a prime culture of China; he, therefore, has learned and practiced Go game for over half a century; after joining Charoen Pokphand Group, he found opportunities to improve his Go game playing skills, and had achieved a security status in the various aspects of the Go game; (2) he began his promotion and dissemination of the Go game by establishing the Go Club of Thailand, which has now become the Go Association of Thailand at present; (3) the significant purpose is to disseminate “The good and the valuable thing” to all Thai people, with his determination and financial support from CP ALL; and (4) as the results of the promotion and dissemination, the Thai nation has been transformed from being unaware of Go game into a country of more than 2 million Go game players, now ranking 4th worldwide. The dissemination has had impacts on Thailand’s education, human resources and sports.
