Assessment Approach in Critical Thinking Skill by Integrating Problem Base Learning in Social Studies for Mathayom Suksa 3

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to develop the assessment approach in critical thinking skill by integrating problem base learning in social studies for Mathayom Suksa 3; and to investigate the quality of the assessment approach in critical thinking skill by integrating problem base learning in social studies for Mathayom Suksa 3


The population were 1) 154 students in Mathayom Suksa 3 at Rajavinitsuvarnabhumi School during the first semester of the academic year 2018; and 2) 3 social studies teachers who applied the assessment approach in critical thinking skill by integrating problem base learning in social studies for Mathayom Suksa 3. The research instruments consisted of critical thinking test, lesson plans, and worksheet. Data were analyzed by using frequency, percentage, mean, relative gain score, and content analysis. The research results were as follows:


  1. The assessment approach in critical thinking skill by integrating problem based learning in social studies for Mathayom Suksa 3 consisted of five steps which were 1) identifying the objective of assessment approach; 2) designing the assessment approach; 3) constructing and developing instruments; 4) assessing the students while teaching; and 5) reporting and utilizing assessment results.

  2. The results of assessing critical thinking skill were 1) students mean of critical thinking skill increase after applying the assessment approach which the percentile of gain score ranging from 6.67 to 66.67; 2) all students passed in every element of critical thinking skill in every lesson plans.

  3. The quality of the assessment approach in critical thinking skill by integrating problem base learning in social studies for Mathayom Suksa 3 indicated that the assessment approach was were convenient and useful for teachers to develop their teaching and for students that could take the feedback to improve their critical thinking skill.
