Video designing for cultural conservation “Ram Tone-Nok Phithid” transferring to adolescents

Abstract

This research is to study the origin and character of Ram Tone-Nok Phithid, to design pattern and content in video and to evaluate the adolescents’ interest towards video. The researchers use relating documents study and focus group of 13 villagers. The findings were found that Ram Tone-Nok Phithid is a folk dance of Krung Ching, Nopphitam, Nakhon Si Thammarat which was affected from the cultural distribution of the central part, Thailand in the reign of Marshall P. Phiboonsongkhram with war period. Ram Tone happened as amusement activity of people in serious situation because of the political situation. Ram Tone has short songs and gestures reflecting community environment. However, from cultural distribution, it effected on songs and gestures differentiated in each region. However, this dance is less popular as same as Ram Tone-Nok Phithid of Krung Ching. This folk dance has the outstanding song involving the philandering of couple of Nok Phithid which is similar to owl. Therefore, the researchers designed the video for conserving Ram Tone-Nok Phithid in cultural documentary pattern and the presented contents are origin of Ram Tone-Nok Phithid, the details of songs and dances, the current situation of Ram Tone-Nok Phithid, scholars’ expectation toward conserving this folk dance, the opinion of adolescents toward Ram Tone–Nok Phithid and the persuasion to conserving this folk dance. The last step is to evaluate interest of five adolescents through focus group which discovered that the adolescents are interested in this video, they aware of the folk dance’s importance, understanding of singing and dancing and they desired this kind of activity and video for cultural distribution.
