The Communication Model used to teach the Students about the Plant Diversity in the Community Forest Learning Center at Lam Tab District, Krabi Province

Abstract

The purposes of this research were 1) to study the plant diversity of the Community forest in Lam Tab District, Krabi Province, 2) to create a model that will be used for communication between the plant diversity and the students, and 3) to study the efficiency level of the developed model.  The sample group consisted of 98 students who were studying in grade 6 at Ban Lam Tab School.  The research instruments included demonstration plots, focus groups, achievement tests, and satisfaction forms. The statistics used to analyze the data were : 1) the efficiency criterion in communication model on standard of E₁/E₂ = 80/80  2) the mean scores of pretest and posttest assessment with-test, and 3) the student’s satisfaction with mean and standard deviation.

The results of the study revealed that: there were 31 families and 40 species of plants found in the community forest. The focus group discussion decided that there should be 6 communication stations, and 19 plants were selected for communication to the students. The results of this communication concluded that the communication model used was effective (efficiency criteria = 80.30/81.53).  The students’ learning achievement was significantly higher after studying about the plant diversity at a reliability level of 0.01.  The students’ satisfaction level for the model was found to be very high.
