Abstract

The purposes of this research are to study the background of Kao Thap War in Thalang City, historical context in the area and important people in Phuket; to examine literature and to analyze the development of performance processes of Thalang victory story in order to convey new messages from the performance art of Thalang victory. The conceptual Framework method are including the ICOMOS Thailand Charter. Performing Arts Conducting and Tourism Charter.

The findings revealed that Kao Thap War took place in Thalang City around 1784-1785 A.D. The important venue was the Thalang battlefield where the war happened. Than Phu Ying Jan and Khun Mook gathered forces to fight against the Myanmar army and claimed victory on 13 March A.D. 1785. This historical story was portrayed in a form of light and sound performance of Thalang victory which has been funded by Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization and Phuket Province since A.D. 1985 up until today (2019).

The performance had been improved in term of performance venue, plot and performance techniques, but it was not interesting. Therefore, The Ways Forward was proposed which aimed at management by applying ICOMOS Thailand Charter to the entire story in term of interpretation, presentation, interpretive infrastructure, site interpreter and cultural heritage site and some obstacle meaning was explored in order to create an interesting light and sound performance of Thalang victory. Consequently, it would benefit cultures, entertainment and historical tourism in Phuket, as well as raising the awareness for local people in that they would realize the unity, love and cherish the land for which ancestors had sacrificed their blood and soul and protected for grandchildren up until today.
