The effect of inquiry method on science subject achievement

Abstract

The purposes of this study were aimed to: 1) compare the science achievement of students in achievement of grade 4 before and after studying science through the inquiry method, and 2) compare the science achievement of students in achievement of grade 4 after studying science through the inquiry method with the criteria of 70 percent of the total score. The sample was 8 students grade 4 students of Banhuaipapok School. The research instruments used in this study included. the lesson plans using inquiry method subject with the degree of quality of plans at 4.95 - 4.96 are satisfied at high level and the 4 choices achievement test with 30 items the difficulty was 0.23 - 0.80, discrimination was between 0.20 - 0.73 and reliability was 0.80 the statistics used for analyzing data were mean, standard deviation and Wilcoxon signed ranks test.


The results of this study were as follows:


  1.  The learning achievement of grade 4 students after learning by Inquiry Method was higher than before significantly by statistical level .05. The average score of pretest equal to 7.63 standard deviation equal to 2.62 and the average score of posttest equal to 15.75, standard deviation equal to 1.75.

  2. The learning achievement of grade 4 students after learning by inquiry method was higher than the criteria 70 percent of full score. The average score of posttest equal to 15.75 that was equivalent to standard deviation equal to 78.75 percent of full score.
