Abstract

This study aimed to develop a manufactured packaging and a crafted packaging for weaving fabric products at Fabric Weaving Group of Banlongmud Village. The goal was to develop the packaging that could reflect its identity and form consumers’ good attitude. The study employed participatory action research that allowed its members to discuss during the developmental phase. The process included 3 phases: 1) Discovery Phase, where the basic information gathered to use in the next phase; 2) Development Phase, where the packings progressed to prototypes; and 3) Refinement Phase, where the prototypes evaluated and refined to the manufacturing. The packaging assessment surveyed by 126 experienced consumers revealed that the crafted packaging formed a very good level of attitudes in terms of visual aesthetics, uniqueness, recognizability, product congruity, and appropriateness for buying as a souvenir. Likewise, the manufactured packaging also provided a very good level of attitudes for all aspects, except the uniqueness where its good level attained. Both kinds of packaging could improve the monetary value of the fabric product with its packaging by 15 percent of the product price.
