The Action Research for Development of English Communication Skills of Teachers in English Program (EP) at Anuban Krabi School under Krabi Primary Educational Service Area Office

Abstract
The objectives of this study were to: 1) study the current states and needs for development of English communication skills of teachers in English Program (EP); 2) develop English communication skills of teachers in English Program (EP); and 3) evaluate the development of English communication skills of teachers in English Program (EP). This study was conducted using action research design based on Kemmis and Mctaggart’s design consisting 4 steps: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The participants of the study were 13 Thai teachers in English Program (EP) at Anuban Krabi School. Data were collected by a current states and needs questionnaire 36 items with a discrimination index 0.70-1.00 and a reliability index 0.99, a knowledge test 30 items with a difficulty index 0.33-0.67, a discrimination index 0.24-0.97 and a reliability index 0.99, an English communication skills assessment form 4 items with a reliability index 0.74, an observation form 10 items with a reliability index 0.97, a satisfaction questionnaire 11 items with a discrimination index 0.43-1.00 and a reliability index 0.94 and a supervision form 10 items with a reliability index 0.95. The data were collected by a percentage, mean, standard deviation and content analysis.
The research findings were as follows. 1) The current states of English communication skills of teachers were in a medium level with an average of 3.41 and the needs for development of English communication skills of teachers were in a high level with an average of 4.00. 2) The evaluation of the development of English communication skills of teachers showed that an average score of the knowledge assessment after attending the workshop was 26.92 or 89.73 percent that was higher than the average score before attending the workshop with 19.23 or 64.10 percent and an average score of the English communication skills assessment was at 36.15 or 90.38 percent that was higher than the expected condition with 75 percent. 3) The satisfaction towards the workshop was in a highest level with an average of 4.80.
