Digital Citizenship Skills of the Students in Private Higher Education Institution

Abstract

The purposes of the research were 1) to investigate digital citizenship skills of the students in private higher education institution, 2) to explore factors influencing the development of digital citizenship skills of the students in private higher education institution, and 3) to study recommendations of students in private higher education institution. Populations were 420 students in private higher education institution. The samplings consisted of 201 students in particular private higher education institution in Bangkok, which its size was determined based on Krejcie and Morgan’s Sample Size Table. The instrument used in data collection was a 5-rating scale questionnaire. All the questions were indicated by IOC between 0.60 – 1.00, and by discrimination between        0.31 - 0.63. The statistics used in data analysis consisted of percentage, mean, standard deviation, a correlation coefficient of Pearson, and stepwise multiple regression analysis.

            The results showed that 1) the digital citizenship skills of the student in private higher education institution were at the highest level; respect yourself/other, educate yourself/connect the others, and protect yourself/other. 2) Factors influencing the development of digital citizenship skills of the students in private higher education institution were two factors such as internet attitude, and computer efficiency. These factors were able to predict digital citizenship skills with a predictive power of 64.00%. 3) The recommendations of students in private higher education institution were that high speed of internet should be more upgraded (69 students), producing media, using media, and sharing media should be carefully performed to avoid illegal activities (47 students), a program of socially responsible producing, using, and sharing media should be organized (35 students).
