DEVELOPMENT OF A SELF-DIRECTED LEARNING READINESS SCALE FOR HEALTH SCIENCE STUDENTS

The purposes of this study were 1) to develop a self-directed learning readiness scale (SDLRS) for health science students in Thailand, 2) to evaluate the quality of the SDLRS via Item-Objective Congruency Index (IOC), validity and reliability. The simple random sample group was thirty second year students from the Collage of Medicine who studied in semester 1 academic 2010. The means and the Cronbach’s alpha coefficient were used for statistical study. It found that 1) the developed SDLRS contained 40 items on the five-point Likert scale. A score of 5 denoted “strongly agree” and a score of 1 denoted “strongly disagree”. The item 1-13 measured the students’ management skills, the items 14-25 measured their need for learning characteristics and the items 26-40 measured their self-control abilities and 2) the IOC of the developed SDLRS was +0.6 to +1.0 and the reliability was 0.941.
