The STUDY OF ONLINE MEDIA USAGE FOR THE ACTIVE CITIZENSHIP IN THE 21ST CENTURY OF SRINAKHARINWIROT UNIVESITY’S STUDENTS, FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES

Abstract

Research purposes of using online media for active citizenship in the twenty-first century of students of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Srinakharinwirot University, are 1) to study using online media for building active citizenship in the twenty-first century of students of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Srinakharinwirot University, and 2) to study development guidelines for students of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Srinakharinwirot University in order to be active citizens. This research is Mixed Method and survey research with a volunteer selection. The sample used in the research included 120 students from Srinakharinwirot University's Faculty of Social Sciences' first and fourth years, 15 lecturers who teach for a Bachelor's Degree, and 5 officers in charge of student activities from the Faculty of Social Sciences. The used methodologies are surveys and in-depth interviews. There are 2 parts of data analysis: quantitative and qualitative. Quantitative data analysis uses statistical data analysis, such as mean and percentage. Qualitative data analysis uses keyword analysis. Results found that: 1) students' online media behavior was on the basis of laws and social rules, followed by using online media with respect for others' rights and non-infringement of others' rights, using online media with creativity and building societal benefits, and using online media for engagement in social activities, 2) there are 5 development guidelines for students in order to be active citizens: 1) proper use of online media, 2) discretion in utilizing online media, 3) faculty and university support for activities, 4) use of online media in accordance with laws, and 5) use of online media for social movement.
