DEVELOPMENT OF MEASUREMENT SCALE ON MEDIA LITERACY FOR PRATHOM SUKSA VI STUDENTS IN NONTHABURI

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to create and verify quality of a measurement scale on media literacy for Prathom Suksa VI students in Nonthaburi. The research sample consisted of 200 Prathom Suksa VI students in Nonthaburi in the 2018 academic year, obtained by multi-stage sampling. The developed research instrument was a measurement scale on media literacy for Prathom Suksa VI students in Nonthaburi province. Quality of the instrument was verified by finding its content validity, difficulty index, discriminating index, and reliability. Research findings revealed that (1) the measurement scale on media literacy for Prathom Suksa VI students in Nonthaburi was in the form of a 4-choice situational test with 30 test items; it assessed four aspects of media literacy, namely, access to media, media analysis, media evaluation, and media creation; each aspect contained 7-8 test items; and (2) the content validity of the created measurement scale on media literacy of Prathom Suksa VI students was indicated by the IOC indices ranging from .67 to 1.00; its difficulty indices ranged from .31 to .80; its discriminating indices ranged from .16 to .58; its discriminating indices, as indicated by the t-test result, showed that the correlation coefficient were significantly different at the .05 level; and finally, the reliability coefficient for the whole test was .85.
