PARTICIPATORY ACTION RESEARCH FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF WEB - BASED LEARNING RESOURCES TO ENHANCE THAI READING SKILLS FOR PRIMARY STUDENTS

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to 1) analyze the content and Thai reading exercises that meets specific learning objectives aligned with the basic education core curriculum B.E. 2551 in the learning area of Thai language in primary level grade 1 - 3, 2) develop web - based learning resources according to the content analyzed in objective 1, and 3) evaluate the effectiveness of web-based learning resources. The sample groups were selected using a purposive sampling method, divided into three groups which are 1) academic technology specialists, 2) Thai language specialists, and 3) 68 third grade students from four different schools. The research methodology consisted of three stages which were 1) preparation for development, 2) design and development, and 3) evaluation of the developed learning resources. The instruments of this study included an evaluation form 1) to evaluate the printed materials, 2) to evaluate the presentation and content, and 3) for students to evaluate the learning resources. The data were analyzed using content analysis, frequency, and percentage. The research findings were: 1) the content and Thai reading exercises were excellent and appropriate for the learners, 2) the developed web - based learning resources consisted of seven main menus and 3) opinions by the specialists showed that the presentation and content were appropriate and excellent. Regarding learners’ point of view, the web - based learning resources enhanced their memory, helped connect their prior knowledge to the new knowledge, and encouraged independent learning. However, the individual results might vary depending on different learning abilities
