Abstract

The United Kingdom held a referendum on 23 June 2016 to withdraw from membership of the European Union. The UK government took advantage of Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty and set the date to leave the European Union on March 29, 2019, but the terms of the treaty stipulate various processes of withdrawal by having an agreement between the European Union and the United Kingdom which must be accepted by both parties. Currently, the said agreement has not been successful. Therefore, the European Union has extended the withdrawal process of the United Kingdom. Despite of leaving the European Union, the United Kingdom still need special privileges from the European Union, in particular, the liberalization of 4 aspects: goods, services, capital and individuals. Therefore, the United Kingdom wishes to liberalize with the European Union only 3 sides, with the exception of personal mobility. But the European Union does not agree. Whether the United Kingdom continues as a country member in the European Union by canceling Brexit negotiations or resigning without withdrawal agreement or hold a referendum again, inevitably affects go to the politics and economy of the United Kingdom and the European Union as a whole
