Influence of Role and Job Characteristic of head of key learning area, School Climate on Teacher,s Teaching Efficiency in Basic Education School

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to study the influence of roles and characteristic of heads of key learning area and school climate on teacher’s teaching efficiency in basic education schools. This quantitative research used questionnaires as research instrument. The samples were 1,082 heads of key learning area from schools under the office of Basic Education Commission. The SPSS program was used to analyze the data for basic information and the LISREL program was used to analyze the causal relationship model.

The research results were; (1) the role of heads of key learning area had direct and total influence on school climate at.01 statistical level of significance. The influence coefficients were 0.23.The job characteristics of heads of key learning area had direct and total influence on school climate at.05 statistical level of significance. The influence coefficients were 0.42, and school climate had direct and total influence on teacher’s teaching efficiency at.05 statistical level of significance. The influence coefficients were 0.29. (2) The role of heads of key learning area had direct, indirect and total influence on teacher’s teaching efficiency at.05 statistical level of significance. The influence coefficients were 0.21, 0.07 and 0.28 respectively and the job characteristics of heads of key learning area had direct, indirect and total influence on teacher’s teaching efficiency at.05 statistical level of significance. The heads of key learning area were 0.27, 0.12 and 0.39 respectively. (3) The causal relationship model was very well fitted with the empirical data. (X2=298.78, df = 145, X2/df = 2.06, P= 0.00, GFI = 0.97, AGFI = 0.96, Standardized RMR = 0.032, RMSEA = 0.031) This model could explain 39 percent of the school climate variance and 46 percent of the teacher’s teaching efficiency variance.
