Abstract

Dietary supplements have a vital role in a modern social life. As general population is concerned about health care on their own and the problem of many essentialnutrition deficiencies in industrialized foods. In Anti-Aging medicine, we found that sub-optimal deficiency of these essential nutrients in long term are associated with many chronic degenerative diseases. As lifespan of human tends to increase, the more chronic degenerative diseases are found especially dementia, cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis. Dietary supplements in a form of multivitamins and minerals are very popular among the general population, especially calcium in order to prevent or treat osteoporosis. But, the way to take dietary supplements to achieve the desirable outcome without any adverse effects, we should clearly understand the true pathological mechanism of each disease. Otherwise, it may lead to undesirable effects.

As a diagnosis of osteopenia and osteoporosis in the elderly, we found that there is less calcium deposit in their bone. But this does not mean that the body is always lack of calcium. Because the deficiency of protein, vitamin C, vitamin D and vitamin K also plays an important role in the foundation of bone synthesis that lead to many minerals including calcium cannot deposit in the bone. So, dietary calcium supplements in the second it ions will increase the risk of extracellular and intracellular calcium which increase the oxidative stress in the cell resulting in cellular toxicity. Furthermore, this leads to chronic degenerative diseases and ectopic calcification and increases the risk of many cancers, too.
