Egypt and The Arab League in the Period of President Gabel Abdel Nasser during 1955-1970

Abstract
Egypt under President Gamal Abdel Nasser during 1955 - 1970 highlighted the importance to become the leader in the Arab world and to expand influence in the Middle East region. President Nasser was the influential leader in Egypt foreign policy formulation, especially in Egypt foreign policy to the Arab world which he saw the Arab world as the sphere of influence. Moreover, Nasser saw Egypt as a natural leader and formulated policies that made Egypt to become the center of Pan-Arab regime along with Arab Nationalism as well as to be a mainstay in the Arab-Israeli wars and against the domination of external powers. The Arab League was established by British’s initiative to combine Arab countries to support the Allies in World War II, but in practice the Arab League was not in line with British’s purpose. On the contrary, the Arab League became the instrument for Arab countries to resist and to be the enemy of the British and the west. Egypt in the President Nasser’s period gave priority to the Arab League. He saw the Arab League as the important instrument for supporting Egypt in leading the Arab world and protecting Egypt’s interests in the region as well as being the crucial arena for implementing Egypt foreign policy vigorously.
