NEEDS ASSESSMENT TO IMPROVE CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT COMPETENCIES OF TEACHERS IN SMALL SECONDARY SCHOOL

This research aimed to 1) study the classroom management components in small secondary school, 2) study the current state and desired state in classroom management of small secondary school teachers, and 3) assess needs of classroom management for teachers in small secondary school. This study used research and development (R&D) process, there are 3 phases of this methodology. This research used Multi -Stage Random Sampling, the samples are 260 teachers and 260 head teachers of academic in small secondary school. The tools used in this study were structured interviews and questionnaires. The statistics used to analyze the data were means, standard deviation and modified priority needs index (PNI modified) The results of this research revealed that 1) The elements of classroom management for small secondary schools are six main components: creating an atmosphere and environment that suitable to student learning, classroom rules set up, creating motivation and reducing unwanted behaviors, the positive discipline creation, using the selection of teaching strategies and the positive relationships creating. 2) The current state and desired state of teachers in small secondary schools showed that current state were at a high level and desired state were at the highest level. 3) The high test needs ranking of classroom management for teachers in small secondary schools was classroom rules set up and the lowest needs was the positive relationship creation.
