A Study of Promoting the Health Care of Older Persons in the Buddhist Approach

The objectives of research paper were to study the concept of older persons, to study promoting the health of older persons and to study promoting the health of older persons in the Buddhist approach.It was qualitative research. The results of research were found as follows : the majority of older persons with the age of over sixty years. It is considered as the phenomena of living beings. In reality, they should be considered in all 3 aspects together : i.e. physical, mental and social aspects. Health could be seen fully and completely in all three periods-the period before being sick, the period during being sick and the period after being sick. Buddhism considers older persons to be ones who had full experience and they were called “Rattannu” in Pali. In Buddhism there were principles for promoting the health of older persons :Tilakkhana, Yonisomanasikara, Bhavana4, Abstention of 6 Causes of Ruin, Sangahavatthu4, Pancasila and Pancadhamma, Sappurisadhamma 7, Lokadhamma 8, etc. They were able to live their normal life in society.
