The study of the phenomenon of the lack of discipline or self control within the Thai society: A view by Theravada Buddhist Philosophies

Abstract

In creating discipline or self control is the utmost importance within the Thai society, because discipline is the apparatus or instrument in creating rules and laws in living, in which consequently create a particular individual to be a good person. Thus, the lack of discipline is one of the major problems in the Thai society. In which incubating the people within the country with the mindset of having discipline or self control is significant, in order to develop the country and to create opportunities in developing oneself by empowering  the knowledge of the fundamentals of respecting the rules of the society, as well as enabling the peacefulness within the society. In this case, by pursuing the conduct of life through Buddhist philosophies will advocate in resolving those problems of the lack of discipline within the Thai society. Practically, by implementing those philosophies and disciplines conducted by the Buddhist practices. That is by establishing the five Buddhist precepts practices to conduct self restraint or discipline in order to resolve and develop self control in harmonizing the way of life of the Thai people. This also includes their fundamental livelihood and culture within their society as well as their surroundings. Continuously, the Buddhist precepts will certainly resolve the problem of the lack of self control or self restraint within the Thai society.
