APPROPRIATE CARE AND PROTECTIONS: SYSTEMATIC REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE ON THE CHILD PROTECTION SYSTEM IN THAILAND

Abstract

This study had the objective to gain a better understanding of the child protection system in Thailand, and to identify gaps that are impeding progress toward the goals of the system of child protections. Data were collected from a systematic review of the literature using the conceptual framework of Wulezyn and application of a critical appraisal of evidence to screen the various research studies. The author identified 108 research studies which met the inclusion criteria. The analysis of gaps and dynamics of the child protection system resulted in the following findings: (1) There is a lack of linkages between the knowledge base and objectives and goals of the child protection system in Thailand, and this gap is manifested across all sectors of society; (2) There is a low level of coordination between the relevant agencies and sectors. The findings reflected a need to strengthen collaboration among the relevant agencies and sectors involved in the child protection system, both formally and informally. There is also a need to unify the conceptual thinking on child protections across all components in the system.
