PERSONAL FACTORS INFLUENCING THE 8 CORE MORAL VALUES: A CASE STUDY OF STUDENTS PARTICIPATING IN THE 7th LEARNING AND TRAVELING IN CHINA PROGRAMME

This research aims at studying 3 kinds of personal factors, namely gender, GPA, and residence, influencing the actions or opinions towards the 8 core moral values which are perseverance, thriftiness, honesty, discipline, politeness, generosity, unity,and cleanliness, and compares the moral values in students before and after taking part in the 7th Learning and Traveling in China Programme in the academic year 2014. The populations were twenty-one students were selected with the purposive sampling. The research tools were 8 core moral values questionnaire,opinion survey questionnaire.Statistical methods used in this research were means, standard deviation and repeated measures ANOVA. The results showed that personal factors were considered, female students’ overall actions or opinions towards the 8 core moral values were higher than those of male students except thriftiness. Students with a 2.50 GPA or less had a higher level of actions or opinions towards discipline after they had taken part in the programme whereas students with more than a 2.50 GPA had a lower level of actions or opinions towards discipline after having taken part in the programme. Students residing in Bangkok had a higher level of actions or opinions towards discipline than those of students residing in other provinces. In addition, students’ actions or opinions towards honesty both before and after taking part in the programme were different and statistically significant at the 0.05 level.
