An Analytical Study of Isan People’s Ideology Towards Boonphaves Custom : A Case Study of Roi-Et Province

Abstract

                The purpose of this thesis is to study belief, purpose, pattern and process of Boon Phavet festival of Roi-Et together with its effect on the community in Roi-Et municipality. The data of the study are collected through questionnaires and the concerned documents.  It is found out  from the study that Boon Phavet  festival of Roi-Et is the way to express the people’s concepts based on Buddhism in the law of karma. The people believe that merit resulting from the practice and participation in this festival will make them happy and prosperous in the future life or in the period of Sri Ariyamettrai Buddha. It is also the way to unite the local people together using the Buddhist faith as a core. It may be said here that the real objective of  Boon Phavet festival of Roi-Et province is to encourage the people’s potential in doing good and living together peacefully by using the faith in Buddhism as the medium.
